Hyla Bondareff Retires from Law Library

Hyla with Peter Hook and Dean Osgood

In a heartfelt celebration this May, the faculty and staff of WashULaw gathered to honor Hyla Bondareff’s remarkable 31 years of dedicated service to the library. As Hyla retires from her role as Director of Faculty and Access Services, the law school community acknowledges the impact of her contributions.

Dean Osgood, in his remarks, highlighted Hyla’s exceptional qualities, describing her as “smart, kind, honest, and straightforward.” He underscored the invaluable role she played in the academic community.

Dorie Bertram, Director of Public Services for the library and Hyla’s coworker for three decades, praised her as one of the best librarians she has ever had the privilege to work alongside. This sentiment was echoed by many, reflecting the deep respect and admiration Hyla earned.

Despite her reluctance, Hyla graciously took the microphone to reminisce and extend her heartfelt thanks, a moment that culminated in a standing ovation from the attendees.

Library Director and Associate Dean Peter Hook aptly noted that Hyla leaves “huge shoes to fill,” a sentiment that resonates throughout WashULaw. Her legacy of excellence and dedication sets a standard for all to aspire to.

We extend our warmest wishes to Hyla for a fulfilling retirement. Her presence will be missed, but we hope she will visit WashULaw often.

Enjoy this well-deserved chapter, Hyla!
