3L Hayley Leach Honored with Autism Advocacy Award

We are thrilled to share that 3L Hayley Leach has been recognized with the Autism Advocacy Award by the Autism Society of America, a national honor that recognizes her passionate and personal commitment to advancing autism inclusion and awareness.

The award was presented during the Autism Society’s 6th Annual Autism Gala in Washington, D.C., a powerful evening that brought together advocates, researchers, and community leaders from across the country. Sponsored by the Embassy of the State of Qatar, the event served as a powerful reminder of their shared commitment to raising awareness and honoring the inherent value of every individual on the Autism spectrum.

For Hayley, this work is more than a professional calling, it’s personal. Inspired by her younger brother, Matthew, Hayley has spent years advocating for individuals with autism and their families. In one of the more touching moments of the evening, Matthew, who was once nonverbal, took the stage to deliver heartfelt remarks and earned a standing ovation. It was a moment that encapsulated the spirit of the award and the impact of Hayley’s advocacy.

In recognition of her work on the international stage, Hayley and Matthew were also invited by the State of Qatar to join the United States delegation at the Autism Tech Conference in Doha this week. There, they are meeting with global leaders in autism research and policy and learning about cutting-edge innovations in autism support and accommodations, knowledge Hayley plans to bring into her legal career as a civil rights attorney specializing in special education law.

We are proud to call Hayley a member of the WashU Law community.
