Hal Goldsmith

Hal Goldsmith serves as Senior Litigation Counsel for the United States Attorney’s Office in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to his supervisory responsibilities, Hal handles investigations and prosecutions of public corruption and major fraud matters.
Hal has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Miami (1990-1995), East St. Louis (1998-2006), and St. Louis (2006-2015; 2018 to current). In his more than twenty years as a federal prosecutor, Hal has conducted and prosecuted large-scale, complex financial fraud investigations, and he has handled the most sensitive and high profile public corruption investigations and prosecutions. He has served in various leadership positions, including Chief of the Criminal Division, Senior Litigation Counsel, and White Collar Chief. He has successfully tried numerous cases, and briefed and argued a significant number of appeals before the Eleventh, Seventh, and Eighth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Hal has also been a Partner at two major St. Louis law firms, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner and Peper Martin (now Husch Blackwell), handling the defense of white-collar matters on behalf of the firms’ corporate and individual clients.
