The Veterans Law Clinic enables students to assist low to moderate-income veterans in requesting upgrades of discharge characterizations and correction of military records. Representation may include written and oral advocacy before discharge review boards and boards for correction of military records.

The lawyering skills students will use and develop include: client interviewing and counseling; legal analysis and reasoning; oral and written communication; legal research; factual investigation; trial preparation; organization and management of legal work; cross-cultural lawyering; trauma-informed lawyering; and recognizing and resolving ethical dilemmas.

Veterans in the St. Louis area interested in requesting assistance from the Clinic should either call the Clinical Education Program at (314) 935-7238 or email the Clinic’s director, Cormac Smith.
