Veterans Law Clinic

The Veterans Law Clinic (VLC) provides students with hands-on experience advocating for veterans seeking benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), discharge upgrades, and military record corrections.

Need Legal Help?

If you are pursuing a discharge upgrade, military records correction, or VA benefits, our clinic may be able to help. We assist St. Louis area veterans in low to moderate-income households in petitioning for these types of relief.

We Can Help With

  • Petitioning service boards for an upgrade of discharge characterization
  • Petitioning VA for benefit eligibility despite an adverse discharge characterization
  • VA disability compensation claims
  • Appealing a VA disability claim rating or denial, including appeals to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims
  • Requesting changes to incorrect separation codes, reenlistment codes, and narratives of the reason for discharge
  • Claims that a discharge was processed or issued improperly or that the veteran would not receive the same type of discharge under current military policies
  • Claims that post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, or military sexual assault / sexual harassment contributed to the circumstances resulting in a discharge
  • Requests for military awards or upgrades of awards which the veteran should have received
