“While I have had great opportunities outside of clinical work, nothing has come close to the hands-on experience I have received in the clinic program,” says student Brayden Basch, JD ‘24. “I have not yet had a job interview where my clinic work has gone unmentioned. Employers are impressed that I have experience regularly communicating with clients and guiding my own work.”
Brayden first worked in our Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, where he regularly interacted with clients and practiced everyday aspects of lawyering, such as running meetings and conducting self-guided research. He also participated in our Lawyering Practice Externship program, which allows students to develop transaction, advocacy, and litigation skills in criminal or civil law. Brayden completed his externship with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. Currently, he is participating in our Entrepreneurship Clinic.
Brayden also received a 2023 Peggy Browning Fellowship, which awards stipends to law students advocating for workplace justice and worker’s rights. He completed his fellowship at Arnold, Newbold, Sollars & Hollins, P.C. in his hometown of Kansas City, MO. Launched in 1973, we are proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our clinic program this year. More than 90% of WashULaw students participate in our clinical programs, making a meaningful difference in St. Louis and becoming better attorneys in the process.
