About Oliver Roberts

Oliver Roberts is Co-Director of the WashU Law AI Collaborative, an Adjunct Professor of Law at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, CEO & Founder of Wickard, an Adjunct Professor of Law at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Managing Attorney at The Roberts Legal Firm, and the Editor-in-Chief of the AI & the Law publication at The National Law Review.

Roberts regularly lectures on artificial intelligence and law at law schools in the United States and abroad. His commentary on AI policy, legal technology, and emerging technology issues has appeared in Bloomberg Law, The National Law Review, The Hill, and Law.com. He also regularly appears as an on-air television commentator on AI issues for media outlets including Fox News, ABC News 2 Nashville, Newsmax, and others.

Roberts designed and taught the nation’s first required AI law school course at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, the nation’s second required AI law school course at Mississippi College School of Law, inaugural AI & the Practice of Law course at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, and the first legal AI education program in East Africa at Addis Ababa University School of Law. Roberts also taught the nation’s first AI education and certification course in a paralegal program at Kapi‘olani Community College in Hawaii.

As Managing Attorney of The Roberts Legal Firm, Roberts represents high-profile clients in litigation and advises clients on AI, technology, and emerging technology issues. His appellate experience includes two oral arguments and two victories before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, as well as securing a denial of certiorari from the U.S. Supreme Court that preserved one of those victories. His most recent Third Circuit victory, Culp v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue (3d Cir. 2023), resulted in a precedential opinion departing from nearly a century of Tax Court and appellate precedent concerning taxpayer compliance with the 90-day deficiency petition filing deadline. His first Third Circuit victory overturned a Tax Court decision that had imposed a six-figure tax liability on his clients.

Roberts is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Villanova University. Roberts previously practiced at Skadden Arps and Jones Day.
