Choose from four high-impact modules on Artificial Intelligence and the Practice of Law, a must for anyone looking to stay ahead in this rapidly evolving field. Gain hands-on experience with AI tools, explore real-world case studies, and navigate the emerging legal frameworks shaping the future of law.

This opportunity allows you to choose the course modules that interest you most, whether you want to attend one, a few, or all four sessions. All modules will be offered in-person on WashU’s Danforth Campus and via Zoom, and MO MCLE is available. Registration is $50 per module. There is no cost for students, faculty, and staff to attend.

Module 1: Introduction to AI and LLMs | 1:00–2:30 pm CT

The first module will explore how AI is being used across legal practice and other industries, the fundamental concepts in AI and LLMs (large language models), how LLMs operate, and the capabilities of LLM models as they relate to the practice of law.

Module 2: Best Practices for Using & Prompting AI Models | 2:30–4:00 pm CT

The second module will focus on best practices and strategies for using GenAI models, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, and other models. It will cover best prompting practices and explore the capabilities of AI models, including the creation of custom GPTs and voice, video, and image generation.

Module 3: Practical Uses & Ethics of AI in Legal Practice | 11:00 am–12:30 pm CT

The third module provides an in-depth analysis of how AI is being applied in legal practice, including live demonstrations of commonly used legal technology products. This class explores the ethical responsibilities of lawyers utilizing AI, best practices, a review of ABA Formal Opinion 512 (on AI), relevant state ethics guidelines, and judicial orders regarding the use of AI.

Module 4: An Overview of Federal and State AI Regulation | 12:30–2:00 pm CT

The final module provides an overview of regulations and legislation on AI, examining actions across the executive branch, federal agencies, Congress, and the States, as well as anticipating developments under the new administration and state legislative activity in 2025.
