January 6 in Court: Understanding the Cases and Charges
Mike Romano was a federal prosecutor for almost 18 years. He joined the Department of Justice after his graduation from WashU Law in 2007 and left the government earlier this year. A few weeks after the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, he joined the team endeavoring to hold the rioters accountable. Eventually, he became one of the team’s Deputy Chiefs, and he remained part of the team until the presidential inauguration, when the rioters were all pardoned, and his unit was disbanded. Mike will discuss the unique challenges that the Department of Justice faced in pursuing these cases, and offer lessons from his time prosecuting individual cases and managing the team.
