Nuremberg at 80: The Trials’ Legacy for Law and Justice After the Holocaust

Event Details

November 10 | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Eighty years after the judgment of the International Military Tribunal, this program examines the Nuremberg Trials as landmark legal proceedings and their continuing significance for lawyers and judges today. The program will examine the legal framework, defenses, and challenges, including the unprecedented prosecution of crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. It will also address the subsequent trials of doctors, judges, and mass killers and analyze Nuremberg’s influence on international criminal law, medical ethics, and judicial responsibility. It concludes by considering how these principles and lessons remain relevant amid rising antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and the passing of the World War II generation.

Presenter: Isaac Amon, J.D., LL.M., J.S.D., Lecturer in Law, Washington University in St. Louis School of Law
