SUMMARY:AI in Chambers: Judicial Policy\, Standing Orders and the Future of Court Governance
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the courtroom itself\, courts are also beginning to confront difficult institutional questions about whether\, when\, and how AI should be used internally by judges\, law clerks\, and court staff. Issues involving internal AI use policies\, confidentiality\, workflow support\, drafting assistance\, ethics\, training\, procurement\, and public trust are becoming increasingly important as courts consider how to engage with AI responsibly while maintaining legitimacy and independence. \n\n\n\nThis program focuses on the policy and governance side of AI in the judiciary. The discussion addresses internal chamber use\, standing orders\, court-wide AI policies\, transparency concerns\, judicial education\, and broader questions about how courts should think about AI as both a tool and a subject of regulation. The aim is to explore what sound judicial governance looks like in this area and how courts can approach AI in a way that is practical\, cautious\, and institutionally credible.
