ICC Scholars Forum
ICC Scholars Forum
Between 2017 and 2020, the Harris Institute jointly convened the ICC Scholars Forum to provide academics who work on and teach about the International Criminal Court a space to gather and discuss some of the common challenges in teaching or doing research about the ICC. The Forum has proved to be a great opportunity for scholars from the United States and Europe to connect with each other and engage with practitioners from the Court. The Forum has been held in both the United States and Europe.

The fourth ICC Scholars Forum, a collaboration between Washington University School of Law and Leiden Law School, was held on June 29-30, 2020. NYU’s Center for Global Affairs (Professor Jennifer Trahan) and the University of Illinois College of Law (Professor Patrick Keenan) hosted the annual International Criminal Court Scholars’ Forum. The conference is normally hosted by Washington University in St. Louis School of Law (Professor Leila Sadat), and Leiden University Law School, and held in The Hague, Netherlands.
The remote conference was moderated by Professors Trahan and Keenan and featured a wide variety of papers for discussion. The full conference schedule may be found at:

The third annual ICC Scholars Forum was held at Leiden University’s Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies. The ICC Scholars Forum provides academics who work on and teach about the International Criminal Court with the opportunity to discuss their teaching and research.

The 2018 Forum was held at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University in The Hague, the Netherlands. The Forum was organized by an ad hoc committee chaired by Larissa van den Herik, Leila Nadya Sadat, and Sergey Vasiliev and brought together more than 25 scholars and practitioners from the United States and Europe. The 2-day program concluded with a book launch and reception of the Harris Institute’s Seeking Accountability for the Unlawful Use of Force (Cambridge University Press 2018).

The Harris Institute, in conjunction with the American NGO Coalition for the ICC (AMICC), convened the first ICC Scholars Forum in June 2017 at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. The Forum brought together academics who work on and teach about the International Criminal Court. Participants discussed their scholarship, some of the common challenges academics face when teaching about the ICC, and shared teaching resources and ideas for local and domestic advocacy efforts.
