Anselm Dannecker

Lecturer in Law

Anselm Dannecker is a Lecturer at the School of Law at Washington University in St Louis. He teaches courses on negotiation, dispute and conflict resolution, and diplomacy. Professor Dannecker’s work focuses on complex multistakeholder negotiations, particularly in international climate diplomacy and legislative negotiations, as well as interpersonal and civil conflict.
As a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, Professor Dannecker has launched and co-led the development of an innovative online curriculum for diplomats and international negotiators that aims to bridge negotiation theory and its practical application for the most complex global negotiations. Continuing this collaborative research project called ‘Turn the Tide,’ which is hosted at the Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Collaboratory at Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership, he and others are training several hundred negotiators every year. Currently, he is exploring ways to leverage AI for democratizing access to skill-building.

Professor Dannecker has trained and consulted clients from various fields, including European and US legislators, diplomats, civil society actors and Fortune 500 CEOs. He has taught in Executive Education programs at the Harvard Kennedy School and has worked with individuals in targeted one-on-one settings to improve individual performance.

Before entering academia Professor Dannecker’s served as an Economist and an Adviser to the CEO at IFC (World Bank Group) and worked in various capacities in the German public sector.
