Joseph Perkovich

Joseph Perkovich is a founding principal attorney of Phillips Black, Inc., a nationwide public interest organization delivering direct representation for prisoners under sentences of death or life without parole while building a sustainable, scalable model for indigent representation. Prior to forming Phillips Black, Perkovich trained and practiced at global law firms in New York. In addition to death penalty cases, his work concerned complex commercial litigation, business crisis management, and white-collar criminal investigations. Before training in New York, he served as a director of research in the University of Oxford’s law faculty conducting studies on telecommunications and media regulation in the European Union and the Mediterranean. After earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina, he directed programming for a community-based organization combating poverty and racial inequality in the rural south.
