Susan Kister

Susan Kister has been a Staff Attorney for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals since 2016, where she advises the Court on prisoners’ habeas corpus applications. Prior to that time, Susan maintained a private practice in the area of criminal defense, focusing on state and federal trials, post-conviction relief, and direct appeals in cases ranging from white-collar crime to death penalty litigation. She has argued extensively before the Seventh and Eighth Circuit Courts of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court; has served on the magistrate merit review panel for the Eastern District of Missouri; has been a member of the ACLU’s Legal Committee; and has authored a book, Volume 27 of the Missouri Practice Series, Criminal Practice Forms. Susan is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, and the University of California at Davis School of Law.
