California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed two WashU Law alumnae, Kemi Mustapha, JD ‘10, and Sarah Cook, JD ‘10, to serve as Superior Court Judges in the Bay Area.
Mustapha has been appointed to the Santa Clara County Superior Court. She has built her career advancing access to justice through her work with Bay Area Legal Aid, where she has served since 2012 in roles ranging from Equal Justice Works Fellow to Managing Attorney. She previously worked as an Employee Relations Representative for the San Francisco Department of Human Resources. Mustapha will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Maureen A. Folan.
Cook has been appointed as a Judge in the San Mateo County Superior Court. She has dedicated her career to child and family advocacy at the Dependency Advocacy Center, where she has served since 2013. Most recently, she was the organization’s Director of Policy and Legal Services. Cook will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge L. Michael Clark.
Mustapha and Cook’s achievements emphasize the impact of WashU Law graduates and their continued service to communities nationwide.
