On November 10, WashU will celebrate the innovative research contributions of its faculty during the 2025 Global Research Excellence Showcase hosted by Provost Mark D. West, Executive Vice Provost Mary McKay, and Vice Chancellor Mark Lowe. The event highlights the latest research of WashU faculty members and researchers working across borders and disciplines to respond to humanity’s most pressing challenges.
Among those recognized is Charles Nagel Chair in Constitutional Law and Political Science Christina L. Boyd. Professor Boyd teaches courses on judicial behavior, civil procedure, and race, gender, and the law. Her work on the federal judiciary and Social Security Administration disability litigation has been supported by the National Science Foundation.
Boyd has published two books, “Supreme Bias: Gender and Race in U.S. Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings” (2023) and “The Politics of Federal Prosecution” (2021), as well as more than forty articles and chapters in leading academic journals. Her research has been featured in media outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post, and NPR, and cited by the U.S. Supreme Court. She has received numerous awards for her scholarship, including the 2024 C. Herman Pritchett Book Award, the William A. Owens Creative Research Award, and multiple accolades from the American Political Science Association and the Midwest Political Science Association.
Professor Boyd’s work exemplifies WashU’s commitment to rigorous, impactful scholarship and its global reach in addressing pressing societal issues.
