On November 18, WashU Law 3L Beverly Lobo argued a case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in St. Louis. Beverly, with the help of fellow 3Ls Ashrakat Hassan and Zachary Irovando, presented a case involving the Prison Litigation Reform Act and the requirement for inmates to exhaust administrative remedies before filing a lawsuit.
The case focused on whether the client properly pursued this process after prison healthcare providers failed to provide timely care for a hand injury sustained during recreation time. Work on the case also drew on the efforts of last year’s Appellate Clinic students, including Nareh Derhartounian, Carleton Plourde, Shawn Podowski, Monica Maiman, and Colton Woodson.
Congratulations to Beverly, Ashrakat, Zachary, and the entire Appellate Clinic team for their exceptional advocacy!
