Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute has appointed Adjunct Professor M. Imad Khan as its Harris Institute Distinguished Fellow in International Disputes and Arbitration, recognizing his leadership in global dispute resolution and his sustained engagement with the WashU Law community.
Khan is a Partner at Winston & Strawn in its International Arbitration practice. He represents and advises sovereigns, multinational companies, state-owned entities, and intergovernmental organizations through all aspects of international dispute resolution. He specializes in investor-State arbitration and commercial arbitration spanning various sectors and geographies. His practice includes enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in US courts. He frequently publishes articles and lectures on topics related to international arbitration and disputes and serves in leadership of leading international organizations and arbitral institutions, including the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the American Arbitration Association/International Centre for Dispute Resolution, and American Branch of the International Law Association.
Beyond the classroom, Khan has played an active role in law school programming, including the International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Symposium and collaborative events with the Harris Institute. His contributions have deepened conversations around international dispute resolution and expanded opportunities for students, practitioners, academics, and arbitrators/judges to engage with leading issues in the field.
In his new role, Khan will continue to strengthen the connection between rigorous academic inquiry and high-level international legal practice, advancing the Harris Institute’s mission to prepare leaders in global law.
Directed by Professor MJ Durkee, William Gardiner Hammond Professor of Law, The Harris Institute is committed to addressing the world’s most pressing global and transnational legal challenges. Building on its long-standing leadership in international criminal justice—including the Crimes Against Humanity Initiative—the Institute engages with a wide range of issues such as climate change, international trade, cross-border disputes, the global environment, space law, and the evolving intersection of law and technology.
