WashU Law alumnus Christian Menefee, JD ’13, was sworn in Monday as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives after winning last week’s special election runoff for the Houston-area congressional seat formerly held by the late Rep. Sylvester Turner. Menefee’s victory returns representation to the district following an 11-month vacancy after Turner’s death in March 2025.
Menefee will serve the remainder of the current term through the end of 2026 and is already campaigning for a full term in a newly redrawn district. A graduate of WashU Law, Menefee has built a career focused on public service and advocacy in Texas. His election marks a significant milestone for both the district and the WashU Law community, which celebrates his continued commitment to leadership and public service at the national level.
