On September 5, students in the Veterans Law Clinic, directed by Professor Cormac Smith, participated in the National Law School Veterans Clinic Consortium’s (NLSVCC) 4th National Bootcamp, a full-day training designed to strengthen the next generation of veterans’ advocates.
The six-hour program offered students a deep dive into key aspects of veterans law, including VA disability compensation and appeals, discharge upgrades, and character of discharge determinations. Professor Smith played a central role in the event as one of three committee members who planned the bootcamp. He also moderated the “Board of Veterans’ Appeals Best Practices” panel, facilitating a dynamic conversation with two sitting Veterans Law Judges and a former Board staff attorney.
The bootcamp gave students an invaluable opportunity to learn directly from experts and sharpen the skills they will bring to their advocacy on behalf of veterans.
