The WashU Law chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) has been named National Chapter of the Year by the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), earning top honors after previously being recognized as Midwest Chapter of the Year. This incredible achievement was announced and celebrated at NBLSA’s 57th National Convention, held March 12–16, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Held under the theme NBLSA 57: Ubuntu – Building Boldly, Together Reimagining What’s Next, the convention brought together BLSA chapters from across the country to honor excellence in leadership, programming, and community engagement. WashU Law BLSA stood out among its peers for its bold initiatives, impactful programming, and sustained commitment to advocacy and service.
Congratulations to Ashrakat Hassan, WashU Law BLSA President, who was interviewed as part of the chapter’s award submission and played a key role in articulating the organization’s mission and achievements. Under their leadership, the chapter has grown stronger, more connected, and more influential within both the law school and the broader legal community.
As the organization celebrates this well-earned honor, WashU Law BLSA is also proud to announce the incoming leadership for the 2025–2026 academic year: President Daryn Rockett and Vice President Patricia Troup. Building on a legacy of excellence, the chapter is poised to continue accomplishing great things.
As Ashrakat concludes her term as BLSA President, she reflects, “I hope the future of BLSA reflects the resilience and tenacity of its members. I hope that we continue to form new traditions that foster community while upholding the ones of our past. I hope that we impact more pre-law students, and our St. Louis neighbors than ever before. I hope our BLSA reaches new heights and continues to break glass ceilings. No matter how uncertain the future looks, I hope that BLSA remains a beacon of hope despite it all.”
Congratulations to BLSA on this success!
