WashU Law recently hosted the annual “Constitution Day: SCOTUS Review/Preview,” a panel discussion moderated by Professor Karen Tokarz featuring Professors Greg Magarian, Susan Appleton, Dan Epps, and Andrea Katz, co-sponsored by the WashU Law Public Interest Law & Policy Speaker Series, the Gephardt Institute, and the Weidenbaum Center. The Constitution Day celebration always precedes “First Monday,” the first Monday in October, which marks the beginning of each year’s new Supreme Court term.
The panel examined significant cases from the Supreme Court’s last term and previewed upcoming cases likely to shape the Court’s docket. Faculty offered analysis on the current state of Supreme Court jurisprudence, including the impact of the increased use of the emergency “shadow docket,” and reflected on the broader impact of recent decisions on constitutional law and society.
By bringing together faculty expertise, the panel discussion created a space for thoughtful dialogue on pressing constitutional questions for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.
