WashU Law is proud to announce the launch of our CLE AI Policy Series, an initiative designed to equip legal professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving landscape of technology regulation and governance. This series offers a structured platform for in-depth discussions on pressing legal and policy issues related to technological advancements.
The series starts with a session on June 9, titled “An Overview of State AI Regulation,” led by Oliver Roberts, Co-Director of the WashU AI and Law Lab and Co-Head of the AI Practice Group at Holtzman Vogel. Roberts will explore how U.S. states are approaching AI regulation, highlighting themes such as transparency, bias mitigation, and liability. The session will also examine the challenges of state-by-state regulation versus federal oversight.
Subsequent sessions will delve into topics including federal preemption of state AI laws, U.S. export controls and their impact on AI development, and examining copyright litigation surrounding AI training data. Each one-hour online discussion aims to provide legal professionals with practical insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by AI advancements.
This initiative reflects WashU Law’s commitment to fostering informed dialogue and providing students an opportunity to gain the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in the rapidly evolving field of legal technology.
