WashU Law approaches AI as a subject of rigorous academic inquiry and a practical tool reshaping legal practice.
Faculty members lead scholarship on algorithmic accountability, data governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and legal ethics while producing research that influences policy at national and global levels. This academic foundation supports practical initiatives like the Artificial Intelligence and the Practice of Law flagship program, which launched with Wickard in January 2025 to give students foundational knowledge of core technologies like large language models and generative AI alongside training in legal applications, emerging tools, and ethical frameworks.
