WashU Law’s Jessup Moot Court team had a standout year on the international advocacy stage, earning top finishes at both the inaugural King & Spalding National Championship in Atlanta and the White & Case World Cup in Washington, D.C.
Competing against 92 teams at the King & Spalding National Championship in March, WashU Law went undefeated in preliminary rounds with a 4–0 record and ranked among the top five teams heading into elimination rounds. The team ultimately finished in the top 13 overall, advancing to the World Cup as Octo-finalists.
Rising 3Ls Griffen Courtoise, Claire Barrington, and Juliette Reyes earned individual recognition for their oral advocacy performances. Griffen was named a Top 50 speaker, Claire placed among the Top 40 speakers, and Juliette finished as a Top 16 speaker in the competition.
At the White & Case World Cup in Washington, D.C., WashU Law advanced to elimination rounds for the first time in several years. The team finished in the top 55 out of nearly 800 teams worldwide, placing them among the top six percent globally.
Congratulations to the entire team on an exceptional year of advocacy, preparation, and competition on the global stage.
The team is coached by Gilbert Sison, JD 2000, and advised by Professor Leila Sadat, former Chairwoman of the International Law Students Association that administers the competition and the co-author of three Jessup problems.
