2L student Abigail Hunt recently returned to St. Louis after having attended the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, held November 6 through the 18th. An environmental law student, Abigail attended the conference as a delegate for RINGO (Research and Independent NGOs), and was recently interviewed by KSDK-TV about the experience. Fellow conference attendees included President Joe Biden, John Kerry, and Al Gore.
“It was a remarkable experience,” she says. “I had the opportunity to engage with so many meaningful ideas, conversations, and negotiations. While in Egypt, I was mainly focused on negotiations for the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture which is, in my opinion, a critical dialogue for reducing agricultural emissions and improving food system resilience.”
She also heard from world leaders, policy makers, and scientists on a wide array of climate change issues — which, she notes, deserve more attention in the legal world. Abigail returns to WashULaw with a renewed commitment to environmental law and advancing policies that curtail global warming.
