WashU Law AI Initiative
At the forefront of legal artificial intelligence.
WashU Law is leading the conversation on artificial intelligence in the legal field, as we prepare creative legal minds to practice with purpose in a technology-driven world.
WashU Law approaches AI as a subject of rigorous academic inquiry and a practical tool reshaping legal practice.
Faculty members lead scholarship on algorithmic accountability, data governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and legal ethics while producing research that influences policy at national and global levels. This academic foundation supports practical initiatives like the Artificial Intelligence and the Practice of Law flagship program, which launched with Wickard in January 2025 to give students foundational knowledge of core technologies like large language models and generative AI alongside training in legal applications, emerging tools, and ethical frameworks.
