Through the generous support of our WashU Law alumni and friends, we are able to offer many named and anonymous student scholarship awards based on excellent academic credentials, evidence of strong leadership skills, a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion, as well as other interests and goals.
Our scholarship funds are catered to students who represent a vast range of interests, viewpoints, backgrounds, skills, and affiliations. In determining scholarship awards, we consider a multitude of factors that align with our goal to recruit an inclusive and heterogeneous student body in all forms, including ethnic, racial, and language diversity; socioeconomic status; ideological and political persuasion; career aspirations; geographical diversity; sexual orientation; military service; and extracurricular diversity to name but just a few.
In reviewing your application, we will consider you for all scholarship awards that fit your unique profile. In addition to the required information, you are welcome to supplement your scholarship application with more detailed information that you wish us to consider during the award process.

WashU Law Scholarship FAQs
- Who is eligible for law scholarships?
WashU Law scholarships support law school students with excellent academic credentials and evidence of leadership strength. As long as you have fully expressed your accomplishments in your application, you will be considered for a wide array of scholarship and internship opportunities. In short, all admitted students—full time and part time alike—are considered for a variety of financial need-based scholarships and merit-based scholarships; most incoming students receive at least one.
Some awards may have additional eligibility requirements, and we always welcome supplements to your application with more detailed information about your accomplishments for consideration during the award process.
Once accepted, students maintain the scholarships they were awarded upon admission for the full three years of study, regardless of academic performance.
Current law students are also eligible for federal financial aid. All college students must file FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to apply for student loans.
- Are There Deadlines or Additional Requirements for Scholarship Awards?
WashU Law offers several LL.M., MLS, JSD, and JD scholarship opportunities for incoming first-year law students that may last the full term of study, regardless of academic performance.
Some scholarships have additional requirements or deadlines, including:

- Yellow Ribbon Program
- Buder Scholarship for American Indian Law Students

- Are there scholarships for my specific goals and interests?
Washington University School of Law alumni and friends fund many named and anonymous financial support initiatives for students with a wide variety of interests and goals. A few examples include scholarships for students with expressed commitment to public interest law and community betterment, teaching and academia, entrepreneurial aspirations, or international law.
If you have expressed your areas of interest in your application, you will be considered for these scholarship awards. However, we always welcome supplements to your application with more detailed information about your interests and goals for consideration during the award process.
