Professor Dan Keating to Receive Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award

Congratulations to Professor Dan Keating, who will receive a Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award, sponsored by the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement. Honorees from the university community are chosen each year, recognized for their “character of service and engagement with the St. Louis region.”

Professor Keating has long embodied a spirit of service. In 2015, he started a free nine-week ACT prep course for students at St. Laurence High School in Chicago, which he taught himself. One year later, he expanded the program to students at Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School in St. Louis. Over the course of eight years, Dan has taught roughly 1,200 low-income students.

He also recently finished a seven-year term on the board of Joe’s Place, a shelter for unhoused teenage boys in the Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District. Over the course of his service, Dan provided legal guidance and enlisted the assistance of students in the Law School’s Entrepreneurship Clinic on support projects. Learn more here.
